Together – 2016 Vision!

Ephesians 2:19-22

You’re no longer strangers or outsiders.  You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone.  God is building a home.  He’s using us all together, irrespective of how we got here, in what He is building.  He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation.

Now He’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the Cornerstone that holds all the parts together.

We see it taking shape day after day, a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a sanctuary in which God is quite at home.

Pastor Michael opened today by stating he feels God creates waves of direction.  God has uniquely designed you and placed something on your heart that moves you individually.   He gave several examples of how people at FBC have used what moved their hearts to give back to their community.  Pastor Kelleen is passionate about prayer and created the worship on the water event.  Jason Gibbons has used his love of basketball as a way to spread a powerful anti-bullying message and several food/ hat & mitten drives took place to fill a need in our schools.  One person can make a difference.  Kim beautifully sang “The Man in the Mirror” to reiterate the point that change begins with you-the person you see in the mirror everyday.

Pastor Michael then posed the question of what can a whole group of people do together? We have size in our favor and being unified by God allows us to change our community. God is blessing and leading us in the direction He wants us to go.  FBC is made up of people with a variety of backgrounds, beliefs and skills making us more powerful in reaching the lost. Due to our strength together, the only weapon the enemy has is distraction causing us to stand alone to fight our own individual battles.  When Christ is not the cornerstone holding us together, our core becomes weak.  When we are weak, we have a hard time accomplishing anything.   When we unite as one, we can accomplish what is not supposed to happen.  Then we not only survive, but we win.  One person can make a difference, but together we are unstoppable.

Staying Positive-It’s A God Thing

Philippians 4:8 Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

Pastor Michael asked how does one stay positive in difficult and sad circumstances? He believes the answer is where your focus is. Is it on yourself and your environment or is it on God? When your focus remains on God you develop spiritual enthusiasm or en theos. That means you are filled with God allowing you to positively influence your environment. He told the story of David and Goliath. David was completely focused on God at that point in his life, which allowed him to fight Goliath and win. After his victory, David became comfortable and shifted his focus toward himself. Since he was distracted it caused him to be in a place he shouldn’t have been which got him in trouble. David tried to fix what he had done. It was the prophet Nathan that finally got David to see what he had really done and then he begged God for forgiveness.

The secret to being content is en theos. By keeping your focus on God and allowing Him to fill you up, you won’t be pulled down by your situation. Knowing that God is with you and giving you strength will allow you to change your environment. That focus will bring positivity and allow you to be the light that shines on the world so you can make a difference. Where is your focus?

I’m Positive – I’m Thankful!

It can be challenging to remain positive in a negative and competitive world.  Often we base our positive attitude on our personal circumstances, so if things are going our way then life is good.  If things are not going our way then our positive attitude tends to go away too.  We need to transform our thought process and remain positive each day because of what God has done for us.  He encourages us and wants us to encourage others.  Remember not to let circumstances dictate how you feel and don’t let the negative words of others cause you to give up.  Pastor Michael told the story of Elijah and Jezebel to illustrate that point.

There are going to be highs and lows in life, but God is strengthening you and preparing you for your unique journey.  God will make sure you are ready and as long as you keep your eyes on Him you will win.  When you take your eyes off from Him, you become distracted and the negativity creeps in.  Be an encourager and think of ways to motivate others.  Pastor Michael closed by asking us to think about what we feel God wants to do in our life by praying over a word and a scripture to go with it.  I chose discipline.  What word did you choose?

I’m Positive, Jerk!

Eight reasons from Romans Chapter 8 why we should remain positive no matter what the circumstances.

  1. My sins are forgiven. This should make you feel hope.
  2. My mind is filled with peace. God is with me no matter what the circumstances.
  3. My future is glorious. What God can do through me is amazing.
  4. God’s spirit helps me in weakness. When I feel weak, I know that God is strong and that something powerful is going to happen to me through God.
  5. God is working everything for good. Don’t look at the negativity.  By looking for God, I am looking for the good and I will find it.
  6. If God is for me, who can be against me? The Creator of the Universe has my back so who cares what other people think.
  7. Jesus is praying for me.
  8. Nothing can separate me from the love of God.
